Alberta Justice is launching province-wide consultations on police street checks to create rules around carding in order to regulate the police practice of randomly stopping and documenting people in Alberta.

Around 100 community organizations are expected to share their views. The consultation will be conducted through a written survey, and in-person sessions.

Justice Minister Kathleen Ganley stated, "We're looking to work towards a guideline that would ensure that the rights of the public are protected but still allow community policing and engagement between communities and the police."
