In the US state of California, a Sikh family that had been kidnapped earlier this week was discovered dead

All four members of the Sikh family who were kidnapped earlier this week in the US state of California, including an eight-month-old baby girl, have been found dead, according to the sheriff of Merced County.

The family was kidnapped on Monday at gunpoint from the family business in Merced near South Highway 59. They are originally from Harsi Pind in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

Vern Warnke, sheriff of Merced County, said a farmworker reported the dead by calling at around 5:30 p.m. Soon after, deputies and investigators arrived at the scene, who discovered the remains to be those of 8-month-old Aroohi Dheri, her mother, Jasleen Kaur, 27; her father, Jasdeep Singh, 36; and her uncle, Amandeep Singh, 39.

“Tonight our worst fears have been confirmed,” Warnke said. “We found the four people from the kidnapping and they are in fact deceased. … There’s no words right now to describe the anger I feel and the senselessness of this incident. I said it earlier, ``There's a special place in hell for this guy.”

Attempting to commit suicide in the nearby town of Atwater, suspect Jesus Manuel Salgado, 48, was arrested on Tuesday.

Wednesday night, Warnke stated that investigators had spoken with Salgado; however, he declined to elaborate on what the suspect had said, citing the ongoing investigation.

The sheriff announced that the family's relatives had been informed and that deputies and other personnel would be processing the area throughout the night.

According to Warnke, there is yet no known motive for the murders and kidnappings.
