Heat Warning Issued For Toronto As Thunderstorms, Sweltering Humidity Prevail

August is almost upon us, Toronto — but according to Environment Canada, thunderstorms and sweltering temperatures are expected in the first half of the week, followed by sun and temperatures in the high 20s in the last half.

The weather agency issued a heat warning for hot and humid conditions early Monday morning, urging people to drink plenty of water and seek out cool places. Heat warnings are issued when high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Monday will see fog patches in the morning and a mix of sun and cloud throughout the day, with a high of 32 C, a humidex of 41, and a UV index of 9. There will be a 30 per cent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Monday night will see a 70 per cent chance of showers, further risk of a thunderstorm and a temperature dip to a low of 20 C.

Tuesday will be mainly cloudy, continuing Monday’s stormy start with a 40 per cent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm in the morning and early afternoon. The day will see a slightly cooler high of 26 C, humidex of 34 and UV index of 7. The clouds will begin to clear overnight, and there will be a nighttime low of 15 C.

After a tumultuous start, Environment Canada predicts much more consistent weather for the remainder of the week, with sunny skies and clear nights expected through the weekend. Wednesday will have a high of 25 C and a low of 13 C, Thursday a high of 26 C and low of 14 C, and Friday a high of 27 C and low of 15 C.
