The abrupt change in the vaccinating strategy of Ontario stuns everyone.

Doug Ford’s government has been altering the Covid-19 strategies but none of the strategies were implemented so abruptly like the latest one. In the recent strategy, Ontario’s government announced that the hardest-hit areas will be now targeted for vaccines, and people aging 18 and above can get vaccinated from the respective areas.

Such a move was earlier signaled by the government but now the released documents from the Ministry of Health show that the older age groups would be the focus for vaccination.

A detailed briefing was presented by the senior government officer on Tuesday morning which included the timeline from April to June. The briefing did declare the beginning of targeted vaccination in the affected areas, but only for the people 50 years of age and above.

Barely 24 hours later, Ford announced that all adults in those hotspots would be eligible to get vaccinated immediately.

Ford said, “As we speak, mobile vaccination teams are getting organized to bring vaccines to where they will have the maximum impact”.

The turn in the strategy has come just days after the change in leadership of the province’s vaccine task force.
