The Liberals signed off on two major pipelines today, projects that will pump nearly a million more barrels of oil a day from Alberta's oilsands to global markets, once constructed.
PM Justin Trudeau with his colleagues gave green signal to Trans Mountain, Line 3 pipeline projects while rejecting Northern Gateway pipeline project.
Trans Mountain pipeline that has sparked protests by climate change activists from coast to coast from Alberta to Burnaby, B.C. is a $6.8-billion project while Line 3 pipeline expansion from Alberta to Wisconsin costs $7.5-billion.
Justin Trudeau said that the project will create 15,000 new middle-class jobs, the majority of them in the trades, and would meet stringent environmental standards while also adhering to the federal government's national climate plan.
