Kristina Tesser Derksen Declared MP for Milton East–Halton Hills South After Recount Confirms Victory

Milton, ON – May 16, 2025 – In a dramatic turn of events that capped off one of the tightest federal races in Ontario, Kristina Tesser Derksen has officially been declared the elected Member of Parliament for the newly formed riding of Milton East–Halton Hills South. A judicial recount confirmed her narrow victory over Conservative candidate Parm Gill, reversing initial results and cementing her historic win.

The final validation, completed just before midnight, revealed that Tesser Derksen edged out Gill by a mere 21 votes, ending days of uncertainty following an incredibly close race on election night. The announcement was shared by Tesser Derksen herself on social media, where she expressed her gratitude and called the victory a "profound honour."

“This is a moment I will never forget,” said Tesser Derksen in her post. “Just before midnight, an official recount confirmed the outcome of the race. We won. It is a profound honour to be elected as your MP. Let’s get to work!”

Tesser Derksen, a two-term town councillor and first-time federal candidate, navigated a challenging campaign in a newly established riding that blends urban and rural communities. 

Parm Gill, a former Conservative MPP who resigned to run federally, initially claimed victory after preliminary results put him ahead. However, the recount process — triggered by the razor-thin margin — overturned the outcome after Elections Canada completed its official validation.
