Ottawa/Ahmedabad — Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating crash of a London-bound Air India flight in Ahmedabad, which was carrying 242 passengers, including one Canadian citizen.
“Devastated to learn of the crash of a London-bound Air India plane in Ahmedabad, carrying 242 passengers — including one Canadian. My thoughts are with the loved ones of everyone on board,” said the Prime Minister in an official statement.
PM Carney also confirmed that Canada’s transportation officials are in direct contact with their Indian and UK counterparts to monitor the situation closely.
“I am receiving regular updates as the response to this tragedy unfolds,” he added.
The crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff, is one of the most tragic aviation disasters in recent Indian history. Early reports suggest the aircraft went down near a medical college in Ahmedabad. Emergency services are actively involved in rescue and recovery
efforts.
