Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday to attend the G7 Summit being held in nearby Kananaskis village. This marks his first visit to Canada since 2015 and comes at a time of strained diplomatic relations between the two nations following the 2023 killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Modi was officially invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to participate in the two-day summit, which includes leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, and the European Union. Key international organizations such as the UN, World Bank, and IMF are also present.
The visit is seen as a crucial step toward resetting India-Canada relations and re-establishing diplomatic dialogue at the highest level.
