In Wolseley, Saskatchewan, 26-year-old police were killed on the job, and two suspects have been detained. Patton, who worked out of the Indian Head detachment, was killed on Saturday morning in Wolseley, Sask. after officials said he was struck by a stolen truck from Manitoba. According to police, two suspects, a man, and a woman fled the scene and were later apprehended.

Linda Patton, who talked to media on Sunday, said the loss of the 26-year-old has devastated her entire family. He was "one of the best," she remarked. "It's also difficult since he was such a thoughtful person." Linda Patton said she hadn't seen her grandson in several months because of the COVID-19 outbreak, but she's been hearing about his work and career from his parents.

She stated that the loss has left the family absolutely broken since Patton was a person who always put people first. "He was just that type of person, I can't say enough great things about him," she added of Patton, who was from Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

Linda Patton said her grandson adored his profession, recalling how he was overjoyed when he was hired by the RCMP after graduating. She added that her grandson would do everything for his community and others around him and that his passion to help make him an ideal candidate for the RCMP. "He wouldn't hurt anyone, that's the kind of person he was, and he'd do anything for you," she explained.

"He's the best in my opinion. The best type of person you'll ever meet." Linda Patton said that while it was always in the back of her mind that something might happen to her grandson while he was on duty, the family "never, ever believed it would."

She stated that the RCMP is flying Patton's parents into Regina from Stettler, Alta., to help them cope with their loss. The RCMP briefed the public on the incident Saturday evening, calling it "an incredibly painful time" for the RCMP and Patton's family. According to RCMP records, Patton served in the RCMP's Indian Head detachment for the whole of his tenure more than six years before his death.

"A tragedy like this shakes our entire RCMP family to its core from coast to coast," Blackmore said. "Despite the fact that we wear a police uniform, we are regular folks who go to work every day like everyone else. Today, Const. Patton will not return home after safeguarding the public."
