Mayor Crombie’s Statement Marking Navratri

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with all residents who will celebrate Navratri.

 

“Navratri symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and is one of the most important festivals for the Hindu community.

 

“During Navratri, the Hindu community in Mississauga, and in communities around Canada and around the world, will come together and strengthen their faith by joining in prayer, meals, dance and celebration.

 

“As we also celebrate the 150^th anniversary of Confederation and our nation’s founding, we further reflect on the important, compassionate and enduring social justice work undertaken by our faith communities to care for our most vulnerable citizens.

 

“Mississauga is a world-class city that invites and encourages people of different faiths to practice their beliefs and worship safely and freely. In doing so, our broader community is afforded the opportunity to better understand and appreciate the guiding principles and virtues of Hinduism during such festivals as Navratri.

 

“Once again, I offer my best wishes to families in Mississauga celebrating Navratri.”
