Pierre Poilievre questions Trudeau on gender reassignment surgeries

PTC Web Desk:  In a recent survey, a mere 11% of Canadians expressed support for gender reassignment surgeries for minors without the need for parental consent, shedding light on a significant divide between public opinion and policies advocated by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his NDP-Liberal coalition.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre addressed concerns raised by Justin Trudeau's approach to parents seeking to protect their children during a press interaction earlier this month. Poilievre's stance was clear, emphasising the need to safeguard parental rights in decision-making for their children and expressing opposition to irreversible surgeries and medical interventions for minors. He explicitly stated his disapproval of puberty blockers for children, aligning with the broader sentiment reflected in the survey.

"I think we should protect the rights of parents to make their own decisions with regards to their children. And I believe that adults should have the freedom to make any decision they want about their bodies," said Poilievre. He emphasised the importance of allowing children to make adult decisions when they reach the age of adulthood.

The Conservative Leader also accused Justin Trudeau and the Liberal party of exploiting the issue to create divisions among Canadians. Poilievre argued that Trudeau's approach is not driven by a genuine interest in protecting children, but rather as a divisive tactic to divert attention from pressing issues such as soaring housing costs and escalating carbon taxes.

"Justin Trudeau is again puffing out his chest, trying to divide Canadians and attack parents who are trying to protect their kids. He will, in the end, back down on this, just like he had to back down on his firearms policy, just like he had to back down on bringing in medical assistance in dying for people suffering from mental illness," Poilievre added.
